Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Los Angeles (spcaLA) is an independent, nonprofit animal welfare organization serving Southern California since 1877. Donations run programs and services including Cruelty Investigations, Disaster Animal Response Team, Humane Education and a variety of shelter services.
With such varied services and programs, the yearly magazine and annual report to donors grew into a large project. Donors and supporters requested something smaller instead of a large magazine. Not only would this be better for the environment but it would also ensure that more of the donations could go directly to helping the homeless animals of Los Angeles.
This is the second condensed edition of the Friends for Life publication. I sought to push the neat little package that had been created and inject liveliness and joy that would hold up year round. While the piece was sent to donors on our mailing list, it was also used with new and potential donors and often was an introduction to people new to the organization as a whole. Illustrating the numbers was very important, spcaLA does amazing, life-saving work with the funds that they raise and it deserved to be spotlighted in more than just a simple graph. For this print piece I created custom illustration to help highlight the organization's work.
